Jaka
Cat-like humanoids with enhanced senses and a natural talent with animals.
Personality: Jaka are solitary, sullen, suspicious, and introspective by nature. Hunters by trade and by nature, they are considered barbaric by most but are actually quite complex and canny. The Jaka claim to be descended from a noble race of intelligent animals who once roamed the forests of northern Talislanta before the Archaens rose to power, and as such consider themselves superior to the other non-human races. Loners at heart, they make steadfast companions when they choose to work with someone, and are relentless against those who seek to cross them.
Physical Description: Jaka stand 6 to 6 ½ feet tall and weigh 180-220 pounds. They resemble a cross between a man, a wolf, and a panther. They have sleek black fur, a silvery-gray mane, and blazing green eyes.
Relations: Jaka consider themselves a race apart, the last descendants of a noble breed. They look down upon all Sub-Men and are cautious around humans.
Alignment: typically neutral or chaotic
Lands: Jaka are native to the Brown Hills of western Yrmania, but can be found anywhere their work takes them.
Religion: none.
Language: Jaka have a unique sign language they developed to allow communication without alerting their prey. Those who have left Yrmania also will usually know Low Talislan as well.
Adventurers: Jaka are much in demand as scouts, hunters, guides, and beast tamers. The worst of their kind make a good living as assassins. They have an almost supernatural rapport with animals. The Jaka Beastmaster is a special class with a special affinity with animals.
Roleplaying Notes: you are a natural-born hunter, and you revel in it. Unlike the humans or neomorphs, your racial line is pure, untouched by the hands of the Archaens, making you one of the few natural species left on Talislanta.
You are most at home in the wilds, any wilds. Whether in the Wilderlands of Zaran, the forests of Werewood, or the jungles of Chana, you are able to blend in and become one with your surroundings. You learn to think as your prey thinks. In that way you can anticipate its next action and be ready for it.
Stealth, cunning, and surprise are your favorite weapons. Attack from a distance whenever possible. Only a fool risks injury needlessly.
Beware of magic, for it is a tool of man and as such is inherently unreliable and dangerous. Look what happened to the Archaens, after all.
