Sunra
Semi-aquatic servitor race of the Kang Empire.
Personality: Sunra are an egalitarian people who shun crass materialism in favor of cooperation and sharing. Their race is devoted to learning, and they measure status in society by the level of education achieved. They have a great love of the sea and all things relating to it.
Physical Description: Sunra stand 5 ½ to 6 ½ feet tall and weigh 120 to 180 pounds. Their skin is covered with fine, silvery scales, and they have deep blue eyes protected by heavy, transparent eyelids. They have webbed feet, but not webbed hands. They wear cloaks and tunics of silkcloth and boots of kra hide.
Relations: Sunra are servants of the Empire, meaning the Kang force them to put their dragon barques at the Empire’s service.
Alignment: Typically lawful.
Sunra Lands: Sunra live in the Coral City of Isalis in Sunra Bay in the southern part of the Empire.
Religion: Sunra worship
Language: All Sunran speak Quan (the official language of the Empire) whenever outsiders are round. When alone with their own kind, they speak Sunran, their native tongue.
Adventurers: Sunra are the premier mariners in Talislanta. Once, their dragon barques sailed the oceans and they hunted sea dragons. Now, they are prohibited from sailing beyond the Empire’s boundaries unless accompanied by Kang soldiers. Still, now and then a few escape and usually end up in Gao Din sooner or later where they are regarded as highly-prized crewmen. A small contingent of Sunra Dragon Hunters fled to the sea when the Quan enslaved the rest of their race, and continue to sail the seas and hunt their ancient enemies even today. Sunra are also skilled aquamancers and shaman.
Roleplaying Notes: the Sea is the Mother of life, and you revel in your ability to journey beneath Her waves at will. From the Sea you learn the value of patience. You seldom speak unless you have something to say. Your social skills are those of compromise and negotiation. Combative argument is foreign to your nature.
“Too many coins make you sink” is a common Sunra saying. You believe that goods should be distributed to a group’s members according to need, not want. You often have difficulty understanding the materialism of foreigners.
